Surinder Sharma Appointed High Sherriff Of Leicester

On April 6 2016 TREC chair and sociology professor at Leicester University Surinder Sharma was appointed as the new High Sherriff of Leicester. In addition to his work with TREC he is a co-director of DICE, a specialized unit based in Leicester University which is focused on promoting inclusion and making positive benefits out of diversity.

He believes the new role, which he will hold for twelve months before passing it on to a successor, will help him deliver his, and TREC’s message of fairness and equality of opportunity to a wider audience. On this subject he said “One of the many things I’ll be working towards will be bringing communities together and greater cohesion within our society.”

He has served as chair of TREC for over twenty years now and as such we wish to take this opportunity to congratulate him for his well deserved appointment.
