I’m not racist, but… 50 years after the Race Relations Act 1965


Recently Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council, Northampton Borough Council and the Law Division at the University of Northampton hosted a joint event to mark 50 years since the passing of the Race Relations Act 1965 (RRA65). There were two keynote speakers, Barbara Cohen and Suresh Grover who considered the history and impact of race equality legislation and the experiences of Black communities. Dr Melanie Crofts, one of our directors who chaired the event wrote this covering the event and offering food for thought as to whether Britain has made that much progress in the half century since the act was passed.
